You never know what you are going to find when you are out exploring in nature. Check out what some of the staff at Maine Sea Grant found when they were searching for oysters at low tide.

They stumbled across a huge jelly-like blob they had never seen before! Back at the lab at UMaine's Darling Marine Center a fellow staff member was able to identify their discovery as squid eggs! The giant mass they found contained thousands of squid embryos or eggs. In about two weeks the embryos will emerge from the gelatinous substance and become free-swimming baby squid.
