King Tide Walking Trail

Some reports suggest that by 2100 the sea level will have risen by 3 feet! It is hard to picture what that might mean for Maine's coastline and where the new water line would be. A group of students from the University of Southern Maine have created an exhibit, the King Tides Trail, to help people visualize sea level rise along the coast of Portland, Maine. They are placing placards with QR codes along the Bayside and Eastern Promenade trails. Simply scan the QR code with your smartphone and it will bring you to a map showing where the new water line would be, given a 3 foot sea level rise.

The King Tides Trail exhibit officially opens December 8th and will run through January 23rd. Check out the trail map.

Don’t live close to Portland? NOAA has created a model that helps visualize how your local coastline might change as sea levels rise.
