Amazing giants - Drone captures video of basking sharks feeding!

Check out this amazing footage of two basking sharks feeding off of the Gloucester shoreline last friday.

(Video captured by Martin Del Vecchio via his drone)

Basking sharks (Cetorhinus maximus) are gentle giants. Instead of eating fish and seals like their more aggressive cousins great white sharks, basking sharks are planktivores -- eating only plankton their whole lives.

Basking sharks live in temperate oceans all over the world. They have also been known to migrate over huge distances, sometimes even crossing the equator! The largest basking shark ever recorded was 40 feet long and weighed 19 tons… as much as 4 elephants.

Basking sharks feed all along the Gulf of Maine’s coastline so keep your eyes out for basking sharks this summer!
