Swordfish in the Gulf of Maine

The Gulf of Maine is filled with lots of really neat plants and animals. In fact, scientists believe that there are over 5,000 different species of plants and animals that spend at least part of their time in the Gulf of Maine.

One species that can be found in the Gulf of Maine is the swordfish. Swordfish are rarely caught on rod and reel but this week one fisherman did just that, and it was a big one!

This fish weighed close to 540 pounds and was 12 feet 4 inches long from the tip of the bill to the fork of the tall! Thats almost as long as a small car!
