Turkey Day or Kelp Day?

Monday, November 21, 2016 by Julia

What’s your favorite Thanksgiving food? Mine is stuffing, but this Thanksgiving I wanted to try something new. I found a recipe for Kelp Mac & Cheese on the Ocean Approved website. Ocean Approved is a local aquaculture company that grows seaweed in Casco Bay. They’re seaweed farmers!

Eating seaweed is good for you and the environment. Kelp is packed with nutrients and it’s tasty too. Kelp also uses carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to grow. Humans are releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, which is heating up the planet. Growing kelp may help to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, slowing the warming of the planet.

Spice things up this Thanksgiving and try making your own seaweed dish.
