What do you think lobsters eat?

If you've come to GMRI for the LabVenture! program, then you know for sure that lobsters eat herring (because that's what we put in the lobster traps!). But what else do you think lobsters might eat?

The answer? Pretty much anything.

Lobsters are opportunistic feeders, meaning that they will eat whatever they can get their claws on. Not only that, but lobsters are able to crack and pry open the shells of mussels, clams, and other shellfish! A lobster's diet can include small fish, clams, mussels, sea urchins, scallops, sea stars, and sometimes other lobsters.

That's a lot of options. They just have to be sure to watch out for hungry cod while they look for food!
