Things are heating up!

Winter is drawing to a close here in Maine (hopefully!), which means summer is wrapping up down in the southern hemisphere. I don’t often think about what summer is like all the way south in Antarctica – I tend to assume it’s always cold and windy with an abundance of penguins. But a recent report from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) - a division of the United Nations - showed that the southern most continent set a record of 63.5 degrees Fahrenheit in 2015! Average temperatures usually range from 14 degrees Fahrenheit to minus 76 degrees Fahrenheit. This report and others will help WMO scientists learn more about naturally and human induced climate change both in Antarctica and beyond!
