Talk Science!

Last spring Meredyth and I participated in a professional development opportunity called Talk Science along with 23 other teachers from Southern Maine. We noticed changes in the discussions we were having with students who come to LabVenture! almost immediately. It was great professional development and one we recommend.  Please see the announcement below.

The Maine Elementary Sciences Partnership (MaineESP) is currently seeking Science Resource Partners in Southern Maine!

If you're passionate about spreading science education throughout your elementary school and district, consider joining our paid Science Resource Partner (SRP) community. In the 2014-2015 school year, SRPs will participate in 21 hours of paid professional development, and will help facilitate a study group with other teachers in their community, district or region.

The professional development we are offering this year is a program focused on Talk Science, built around the research from TERC showing that productive discourse in the classroom increases student learning and engagement. Your teachers will learn tangible “talk moves” that they can use while teaching any topic (the focus is science, but the moves work with all content areas).
